The Safe Families Canada Winnipeg Chapter has been serving at-risk families in Winnipeg since 2016, thanks to an incredible group of volunteers who open up their hearts and their homes to make sure children are safe and families are kept together. Our objectives are to support and stabilize families, deflect children from entering the welfare system, prevent child abuse, and strengthen compassion ministries of the church.
Chapter Director – Cassidy Falk
Throughout her life, Cassidy always felt called to support families and share the same love that God has so graciously given to her. For many years, she has been involved in various church ministries to follow that calling. Reflecting upon her own experiences growing up in a single-parent home, she has found her passion to be surrounding families in crisis with caring communities. With a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Family Social Sciences from the University of Manitoba, Cassidy focused her education on learning about the struggles that many families go through and the ways in which she can help them. Since 2020, Cassidy has been serving families in crisis through Safe Families Canada – Winnipeg in various volunteer and staff positions.
Cassidy would be excited to connect with you about how you can also support struggling families in Winnipeg. Feel free to call, text or email her and learn more about how you can get involved in supporting families in your own neighbourhood.
Family Coach Supervisor – Rebecca Prathipati
Rebecca had been a volunteer family coach with Safe Families Canada for about 5 years before becoming the Family Coach Supervisor. She is passionate about hearing stories—she is constantly amazed by the strength, intuition and resources within families. Rebecca believes in facilitating opportunities for a family’s voice to be heard, in bolstering family agency, in minimizing barriers to resources and in strengthening relationship networks. A social worker by profession, she has learned to love and preach models of resilience, attachment, neurobiology, trauma-informed care and family preservation.
Family Placement Coordinator – Adele Thompson
Adele and her family moved to Winnipeg in late February 2020 after several years of living in Vancouver and San Francisco. Originally from Edmonton, she is glad to be able to call Winnipeg home! Adele and her husband Peter have two boys; Callan, age 10, and Isaac, age 8. They are a relaxed family and love to be home together watching movies, creating art or playing games. Though they will never turn down an opportunity for adventure, especially in the summer! With a background in social work and several years of running her own business as a consultant, she is so happy to be working with this wonderful team of people and being a part of what God is doing through this ministry.
