Safe Families Canada | Steinbach
Chapter Director – Sue Doerksen
Sue Doerksen has a lifetime of experience volunteering for many sectors of her local community. Raised to love Jesus, and to use whatever gifts He gave to bless others, she grew up both volunteering at and singing for various fundraisers supporting pro-life movements, food banks and food drives, church and community events, Children’s Wish Foundation, and Outreach. She has a heart for the marginalized and a passion for children and families. Sue spent the last 8 years in local governance as a School Board Trustee, helping to ensure the division’s actions and policies were focused on keeping kids safe and parents informed. When she first heard about Safe Families, she had a strong desire to be involved in some way, waiting on the Lord’s leading and timing. Coming onto the team feels like a gift, and she is excited to see what God will do in the lives of the families that Safe Families can help. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. – Eph 2:10 NIV
Sue is married to Jed, and they are the proud parents of 3 boys. When not at work, she most enjoys spending time with her family and friends, laughing together, or making food, drinking a lot of great coffee, planning fun events and trips, watching movies, singing and worshiping the Lord.
Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are His dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered Himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. – Eph 5:1-2 NLT
Family Placement Coordinator -Kelly Decru
Kelly Decrue has years of experience in administrative work. She started off as a member of the Steering Committee for the Steinbach Safe Families site and moved into an administrative role in April 2021. She was moved to get involved with this organization so that she, and others like her, would be able to help families in crisis in a tangible way. Kelly lives on her rural property with her husband, 2 daughters, 1 dog, and 2 cats. She enjoys reading, spending time with her family, and watching the prairie sunset from her front porch.
