SFC Niagara Chapter is dedicated to using the Circle of Support model to bring restoration to families in crisis while at the same time using this work to grow His people in love for both our neighbour and in Christ’s likeness.
Chapter Director – Tim Van Hoffen
Tim and his wife have spent over 30 years serving children in various capacities as volunteers. Inspired by the way an international organization was mobilizing the local church to serve the vulnerable families within their communities the connection to how Safe Families was serving families in crisis here in Canada was obvious. The early history of Safe Families here in Niagara has only served to increase his conviction that God is using Safe Families to bring restoration to families in crisis while at the same time using this work to grow His people in love for our neighbour and Christ likeness.
“Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?
Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, -Isaiah 58:6-8
Family Placement Coordinator – Theresa Douma
Theresa is passionate about helping those who need to know the love of Christ through practical and tangible ways. After getting married to her husband Mike, and while growing their family, Theresa used her time as a stay at home mom to serve in the local church through various out-reach ministries, and to reach out to the vulnerable in our local community. In her spare time she can be found outdoors tending to a garden, inside curled up with a book, or in the kitchen baking and making meals for her family or just whoever needs something to eat.
Family Coach Supervisor – Mandy Rosts
Born and raised in Niagara, Mandy has served children and their families in the field of education for over 15 years. As a teacher, she understands the connection between a healthy home environment and the well-being of children and youth. Once she and her husband, Ryan, became parents, they developed an awareness for the number of vulnerable families living in Niagara. They endeavor to serve and support families out of love, compassion, and a desire to see them thrive in the face of adversity.
