Every day in Lethbridge, families face unexpected crises—domestic violence, homelessness, medical emergencies, and other circumstances that leave parents and children without a safe place to go.
Since opening two years ago, Lethbridge Safe Families has stood in the gap for 100 families who had nowhere else to turn. Faced with medical crises, threat of homelessness, mental health struggles that threatened their ability to parent, and overwhelm causing paralysis. Through our team of dedicated volunteers and our generous donors we have been able to provide people to walk alongside parents in crisis, helping them to navigate court, protective orders, safe housing, counselling, mountains of paperwork, and parenting resources. We have provided tangible support such as help moving, appliances, furniture, groceries, and childcare.
This Christmas: A Place Called Home Capital Campaign
Since housing is such a pivotal piece of moving a family from crisis to sustainability, we are working to purchase a Four-plex in Lethbridge that will serve as short-term, emergency housing for families in crisis. This home will provide immediate safety, stability, and dignity while we work together with families to find longer-term solutions. We have already secured the first $110,000 needed to make this project a reality!
Our fundraising goal for this home is $600,000, and with the support of the Lethbridge Region, we know it’s achievable.

More About Safe Families Canada in Lethbridge
Safe Families is a Christian charity dedicated to supporting families in crisis by providing just-in-time, short-term, and relational support. Our goal is simple: to keep kids safe, and families together.
Every family we serve is surrounded by a dedicated volunteer team that provides wrap-around care tailored to their unique needs. This may include short-term hosting for children who are at risk, practical help, and emotional support to help parents overcome barriers to stability.
Our incredible host family volunteers open their homes and hearts to provide safe places for children to stay while their parents address pressing needs. In our two years, they facilitated 971 daytime hostings and 757 overnight hostings—each one representing a child kept safe while their parents faced extreme crisis.
Beyond hosting, our wrap-around supports are extensive and deeply personal. Volunteers provide transportation, help with paperwork and budgeting, accompaniment to appointments or court, and assistance accessing essentials like food, furniture, clothing, and even funding for damage deposits, childcare, and vehicle repairs—whatever is needed to help a family move toward self-sufficiency and flourishing.
Thanks to the generous support of local businesses, churches, and community partners, Safe Families Lethbridge has served 100 families in just 24 months—with 71 families successfully graduating and an average of 25 currently receiving ongoing support. We’ve helped 29 families find stable housing.
It’s clear that Safe Families is meeting a vital need in our community. Partner agencies often reach out with both excitement and relief, recognizing that our volunteers can fill critical gaps for families in crisis. We’re honoured to serve alongside them—building circles of support that walk alongside families who have no where else to turn. Together, we can ensure no family in Lethbridge Region faces crisis alone.
Amy Vetter has served within Kids Ministries for over a decade- with special affection for running community centred programming that meets the felt needs of kids and parents. She is a Master’s of Leadership and Management graduate (Briercrest Seminary), mom of three mischievous boys, and a teacher’s wife. In her spare time, she love to hang out in parks with her boys, go to the movie theatre, drink great coffee, listen to podcasts and go tenting in the mountains.
Amy is deeply passionate about equipping churches and communities to surround families in crisis with practical, caring, and compassionate support. This is where her professional why: “to push organisations and leaders to lead at their best and to think outside the box; so that they can take risks, have a growth mindset, and bring flourishing in their communities. (through passion, authentic safety, and connectedness)” meets the vision of Safe Families Canada: “Creating a world where children are safe and families transformed through radically compassionate communities”.

Family Coach Supervisor – Sierra Proudfoot
Sierra has been working for many years in Health care as a Recreational Therapist. It is here that God placed on her heart a deep love and care for others, encouraging families as they support their loved ones. Sierra also loves kids. Sharing Jesus with them and watching them grow is one of the coolest ways to grow in your personal faith with Jesus. A childlike faith is beautiful and kids have so much to teach us.
Sierra is excited about the opportunity to serve as Family Coach Supervisor and work side-by-side with the volunteers at Lethbridge Safe Families. This is a place where we can surround those in need together, as the church, serving our God and serving others. We have been called by God to care and have compassion for the vulnerable, she is excited to make that practical through the work at Safe Families.
Sierra and her husband Tim have been married for 13 years and have 3 beautiful kids. When not at work, she most enjoys spending time with her family and friends, laughing together. Sierra loves a good novel, and time outside in the mountains or anywhere she can soak up the sunshine.
Family Placement Coordinator – Karis Gray
Karis first heard about Safe Families in June of 2022 and eagerly joined the steering team as they worked to launch a Lethbridge Chapter. She has held a variety of volunteer roles for Safe Families Lethbridge and is very excited to join the organization as the interim Family Placement Coordinator.
Karis has a Bachelor’s of Psychology and has seen first-hand the hope that can be offered to people in crisis when we reach out with compassion and grace. It is her desire to see the church engage in our local communities, expressing their faith in practical ways, following Jesus’ command to love our neighbour as we love ourselves.
Karis and her husband Thomas have three girls and attend the Evangelical Free Church of Lethbridge, where she also serves on the Mom Collective leadership team. In her free time she enjoys playing basketball, going on bike rides with her girls, and escaping to the mountains for a hike.
Administrative Assistant – Dalyce MacKay
Dalyce is thrilled to be a part of the Safe Families Canada team. When she first heard of Safe Families, she felt a strong tug on her heart to be involved, knowing first hand how tremendous an impact a circle of support can have on a family. Dalyce and her husband David will be celebrating 10 years of marriage this October and they have two beautiful kids. Their oldest was born with ONH/SOD and they have had to rely heavily on family and professional support.
Dalyce has always had a passion for youth and spent many years volunteering in the church and as a youth leader. That passion has now grown to seeing those same supports built around families in crisis. She loves seeing individuals use their gifts and abilities to uplift and love on those in need.
In her spare time you will find Dalyce spending time with family, reading, and as long as the weather agrees, she will be playing in the yard and garden.
