SFC launched the Edmonton Chapter in September 2020. Our connection with referring agencies constantly grows; new referrals come in weekly. With your help, we can support families going through difficult times, keeping kids safe and families together.
Please email our Chapter to learn more about how you can be a part of our circle of support.
Chapter Director – Alaina Driedger
Alaina took on the Chapter Director role after leading the Steering Committee that established Safe Families Canada in Edmonton. While working as a speech assistant in northern Alberta Indigenous communities, she sensed God calling her to care for the vulnerable in her city. Through her decade of experience as a foster and adoptive parent, Alaina has developed a heart for keeping families together. She is passionate about supporting families in crisis before a breakdown occurs.
Family Placement Coordinator – Melissa Strike
Melissa joined the Steering Committee that first brought Safe Families Canada to Edmonton and, in April 2021, filled her current role as Family Placement Coordinator. As a foster parent since 2005, Melissa brings extensive knowledge of trauma and working with resources in the community. She is passionate about helping families in crisis and advocating and accessing resources to help navigate their situation successfully. With her husband, Chris, they have two grown daughters and five adopted children from the foster care system.
Family Coach Supervisor – Lindsay Blanchard
Lindsay joined the Safe Families Canada staff team in May 2023 as the Family Coach Supervisor. A former youth and family counsellor with high-risk teens, Lindsay also brings 11 years of experience as a foster parent. Lindsay and her husband David have five beautiful kids through birth and adoption. Lindsay has a passion for supporting other caregivers, and her firsthand knowledge of navigating her children’s medical and developmental support systems allows her to equip our volunteers with practical strategies.
Administrative Assistant – Trish Wayne
Trish is passionate about the mission of Safe Families. She has been involved as a volunteer and joined the staff team in her current role as Administrative Assistant in March 2024. Her experience in formerly leading the Pregnancy Care Centre has given her insight into what it takes to surround someone in crisis as well as the importance of administrative duties. Married to Darrin, they have 2 grown children and 3 grandchildren. Their love of welcoming people into their home has been lived out throughout their married life.
