Safe Families Plus Launched in Windsor-Essex!

A significant number of youths in the foster care system will exit that system with very few opportunities and support. These youths are vulnerable targets for human trafficking, substance abuse and high risk behaviours. They long to have caring people present in their lives to serve as role models and provide guidance.

The launch of Safe Families Plus in Windsor-Essex has its purpose to change the heartbreaking statistics stated in the picture above, one life at a time with the help of caring volunteers. We believe in the impact compassion will have in the Windsor-Essex community.

Just as Safe Families works as a preventative measure to keep children safe and families together, Safe Families Plus will strive to provide these supports to at risk youth.  The program will pair youth in foster care (ages 15 and older), as well as youth who have recently “aged out” of foster care with adult mentors who would act as long-term, consistent role models, similar to an extended family member. The mentor is a volunteer, support person who will guide the youth along on their journey, working towards achieving their independence goals. They will provide lasting support and shared experiences; help with exploring talents, and career interests; teach life skills (i.e. grocery shopping, budgeting, etc.) and help connect with resources in the community.

We can’t wait to share how young lives will be positively impacted!
