Safe Families Canada surrounds your family with a caring, compassionate community of volunteers. These volunteers, known as a circle of support, come alongside you during a crisis to care for both you and your children. Our goal is to keep your family together.
As the parent (or legal guardian) whose children are being cared for by an Safe Families Canada Host Family, you maintain full custody of your children, and are encouraged to participate in decisions regarding their care. Our aim is to form a partnership between you and the Host Family, seeing you become an extended family. We encourage the relationship to continue even after your children return home.
There may be times of crisis in which a family needs support, but not necessarily having a child placed with a Host Family. In these situations, our Family Friends and Family Coaches can provide support and guidance, such as helping to find work or secure an apartment. The Circle of Support will also work with the parent to set and achieve attainable goals that are focused on parenting well and maintaining family stability.
